According to preliminary statistics of the General Department of Customs, the country’s seafood export in the first 4 months of 2020 reached nearly 2.23 billion USD, dropping 8.1% compared to the first 4 months of 2019. Particularly in April 2020, it decreased by 1.9% compared to March 2020 and 2.7% compared to April 2019, reaching 616.92 million USD.
Japan, USA, EU, South Korea and China are the top main markets which consume seafood in Vietnam; in which, export to Japan ranked first in terms of turnover of 434.39 million USD, accounting for 19.5% of the country’s total seafood export turnover, rising over 5.6% compared to the same period in 2019. The export to the US reached 377.48 million USD, making up 17%, declining 2.1%. The EU market was responsible for 14.5%, reaching 322.34 million USD, dropping 14.8%. The export to China also decreased by 8%, reaching 246.26 million USD, accounting for 11%. The Korean market made up 9.7%, reaching 216.44 million USD, falling 8% over the same period in 2019.
In terms of seafood export growth in the first 4 months of this year compared with the same period last year, most markets saw a decrease in turnover; in which exports dropped sharply in some markets such as Mexico, dropping 55.6%, reaching only 20.8 million USD; Iraq decreased by 55.5%, reaching 1.65 million USD; Sri Lanka fell 45.9%, reaching 1.14 million USD; Senegal decreased 42.6%, reaching 0.26 million USD.
In contrast, seafood export to Cambodia increased sharply by 190.3% to 21.78 million USD; Ukraine climbed by 35.8%, reaching 9.66 million USD; Norway rose by 30.5%, reaching 2.71 million USD.
